DesignMerge Print Driver merge session fails or quits unexpectedly

If a DesignMerge Print Driver merge session (for example, Create PDF/VT or Create PostScript) fails or quits unexpectedly without displaying any helpful alerts, take the following steps to determine why this is happening:

Step 1) Reset InDesign Preferences. When you notice that your Adobe InDesign software is starting to behave a bit erratically, deleting the InDesign preferences (also referred to as resetting the preferences) often solves the problem. For instructions, please see the How to reset Adobe InDesign preferences Meadows Help Desk Knowledgebase Article.

STEP 2) Confirm the InDesign Preflight feature is not reporting any errors in the document, such as a bad font.

STEP 3) If the failure is occurring during a Create PDF/VT merge session, confirm InDesign can produce a PDF of the document, apply the InDesign Export feature to export the document as an Adobe PDF (Print) file, selecting the same Export Adobe PDF settings that you have been selecting when running the DesignMerge PDF merge session.

If the failure is occurring during a Create PostScript merge session, confirm InDesign can produce a PostScript file of the document, apply the InDesign Print feature to print the document as a PostScript file, selecting the same Print settings that you have been selecting when running the DesignMerge PostScript merge session.

STEP 4) Run a DesignMerge Data Preview merge session to confirm DesignMerge is not experiencing any unexpected issues while merging data.

STEP 5) Create a DesignMerge VDP Package to confirm DesignMerge can collect all files that the job requires. For instructions, see the How to create a DesignMerge VDP Package Meadows Help Desk Knowledgebase Article.

STEP 6) If none of the steps above reveal what is causing the merge session to fail, open a Support Ticket on the Meadows Help Desk to report this. Include screenshots of the settings that you are selecting when attempting to produce the DesignMerge Print output. Also, send the VDP Package that you created in step #5 above to Meadows Help Desk for assistance.
