Index Builder buttons are unavailable (macOS only)

This article provides details about a problem with the Index Builder panel that may be present on some Macintosh computer systems (such as Mac Studio systems), and which occurs after resizing the Index Builder panel.

OVERVIEW

On some Macintosh systems, an incompatibility with Adobe InDesign may cause the buttons on the Index Builder panel to become unavailable after the panel has been resized.

When this occurs, the buttons may:

  • Appear misaligned or positioned incorrectly
  • Be partially or completely hidden
  • Appear dimmed and unresponsive

At this time, there is no direct workaround other than keeping the panel at its original default size.

Recommended Solution

First, if you are currently experiencing this issue, please start by resetting your InDesign preferences. The link below provides details about how to reset your InDesign preferences:

How to reset Adobe InDesign preferences

Once you have reset your preferences, the Index Builder panel buttons should be available once again. At this point we recommend that you adjust your Index Builder preferences to lock the panel to its default size.

To enable this setting:

  1. Open the Index Tagger panel.
  2. Click the Prefs... button.
  3. Locate the panel resizing preference shown below.
  4. Uncheck this option to keep the panel at its default size.

Keeping this preference unchecked will prevent the panel from being resized and will avoid the button display issue.

We apologize for this inconvenience, and thank you for your continued support of DesignMerge software.
