How to transfer DesignMerge settings from Desktop to Server systems

If you are running a Server version of DesignMerge, occasionally you may need to transfer your settings from the DesignMerge Pro (Desktop) version to the DesignMerge Server (Server) version of the software. This document describes which settings to transfer, and how to transfer them.

TRANSFER THE DDF SETTINGS

The most important settings by far are the Database Definitions, or DDFs for short. DDFs hold all of the definitions for any fields, variable links, or rules that have been defined for DesignMerge. Follow the steps below to transfer all of your DDFs.

  1. First, on the Desktop you need to locate the Meadows folder. The Meadows folder holds the settings that you need to move/copy. With DesignMerge software running, choose Help > Open Settings Folder from under the DesignMerge menu. This will put you into the correct Meadows settings folder for the workstation you are running. Note: If this approach is not available for you, then use the link below for additional instructions on how to locate your Meadows settings folder:
Where do I find the InDesign Preferences and Meadows Preferences Folder?
  2. Inside of the Meadows settings folder, you will see a folder named DesignMerge. Open the DesignMerge folder.
  3. Inside of the DesignMerge folder you will see a file called Record Definitions. This file contains the settings of all of your DDFs. Make a copy of this file and place it onto the Server system.
  4. On the Server system, repeat Step 1 and locate the Meadows folder there. Please see the following article for information about how to locate the Meadows settings folder on a DesignMerge Server system:
Where do I find the InDesign Preferences and Meadows Preferences Folder?
  5. The folder structure on the Server system is identical to the Desktop system. Simply replace the Record Definitions file on the Server with the one you copied from the Desktop and you have completed the transfer.
  6. You must restart InDesign Server in order for the new file to be recognized.

TRANSFER TRANSTABLES, SQL, or REQ FRAGMENTS

If you are using Translation Tables, SQL Fragments (for ODBC connectivity) or REQ Fragments (for HTTP connectivity) with your DesignMerge system, you should transfer these settings. Follow the steps below to transfer these settings.

  1. Locate the Meadows folder on the Desktop system (follow the same steps outlined in Step 1 in the previous section).
  2. Open the DesignMerge folder (follow the same steps outlined in Step 2 in the previous section).
  3. Make a copy of the following folders within the Meadows/DesignMerge folder:
            TransTable
            ODBC
            HTTP
  4. Place the copy of these folders onto the Server system.
  5. On the Server system, repeat step 1 and locate the Meadows folder there. Please see the following article for information about how to locate the Meadows settings folder on an InDesign Server system:

  6. The folder structure on the Server system is identical to the Desktop system. Simply copy the folders from Step 3 into the same Meadows/DesignMerge folder and the transfer is complete.

TRANSFER CUSTOM JAVASCRIPTS

If you are using any custom scripts, transfer those next by following the steps outlined below:

  1. On the Desktop system, go to the following folder:
    Adobe InDesign/Scripts/Scripts Panel/Meadows/
NOTE: If you do not have a Meadows folder inside of the Scripts Panel folder, then there are no scripts to transfer.
  2. Make a copy of all files/folders that are inside of the Scripts Panel/Meadows folder.
  3. On the Server system, go to the following folder:
    Adobe InDesign Server/Scripts/
NOTE: InDesign Server does not have a Scripts Panel folder, so the storage for scripts on the Server system is slightly different from Desktop.
  4. Place all of the scripts that you copied in step 2 into the Scripts folder on the Server system. This completes the transfer of all script files.
